The Phi Phi Islands are one of the most famous destinations in southern Thailand, and it’s easy to see why. This tropical paradise is home to some of the best beaches in the country.

In this guide, I’ll help you pick the perfect spot to stay in Phi Phi, depending on your travel plans. You’ll also find my top hotel recommendations for all budgets.

If you’re short on time, my top picks are: Phi Phi The Beach Resort in Long Beach, which is my personal favorite. The most popular is the PP Princess Resort, and if you’re after something more budget-friendly, Chunut House is a great option.

Where to Stay in Phi Phi

1. Tonsai Village: Convenience and Local Vibes

Tonsai Village is the bustling heart of Phi Phi Don, where you’ll find most of the restaurants, bars, and shops.

It’s the perfect place to stay if you want to be close to the action and enjoy the best things to do in phi phi. Tonsai is also conveniently located near the pier, where boats from Krabi and Phuket arrive and where tours to Maya Bay and other iconic spots depart.

Keep in mind, though, that because this area is so popular, it can get a bit noisy at night since much of the nightlife happens here.

Recommended Hotels in Tonsai

  • €€€€ Phi Phi Harbour View: Stunning pool views and an unbeatable location near the pier.
  • €€ Chunut House: Peaceful and surrounded by nature, yet still close to everything.

Just so you know, the Phi Phi Islands are an archipelago, but Phi Phi Don is the main island and the only one with accommodations.

Friend's Tip: Don’t forget to get travel insurance for your next adventure. I recommend Heymondo,—it’s super comprehensive, and with that link, you’ll get 5% off!

2. Long Beach: Tranquility and Natural Beauty

Long Beach is easily one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches. You’ll find crystal-clear waters and soft white sand without the crowds, making it perfect for relaxing in a peaceful and natural setting. It’s also a fantastic spot for snorkeling and enjoying breathtaking sunsets.

While it’s relatively close to Tonsai Village—about a 20-minute walk—the location might feel less convenient if you plan to visit the island’s center frequently. Still, the beauty and serenity of Long Beach more than make up for the extra distance.

For me, the mix of tranquility and accessibility makes this the best place to stay in Phi Phi. Plus, the accommodations here are quite affordable.

Recommended Hotels in Long Beach

  • €€€ Phi Phi The Beach Resort: One of the best value-for-money hotels on Phi Phi Island, with spectacular views and great breakfasts.
  • €€ Viking Nature: Beautiful wooden cabins with great views.
  • €€ Paradise Pearl: Perfect beachfront bungalows for those seeking a Phi Phi hotel right on the sand.

3. Loh Dalum: Lively Atmosphere and Nightlife

Loh Dalum is well-known for its vibrant nightlife and energetic atmosphere. It’s a great choice if you’re traveling with friends or looking for a spot to enjoy beach parties and a youthful vibe.

However, if you prefer a quiet environment, this may not be the best option. Some hotels are very close to the noise from bars and music that often lasts late into the night. That said, the hotels I recommend below ensure you’ll still get a good night’s sleep.

Recommended Hotels in Loh Dalum

  • €€€€ PP Princess Resort: The most popular hotel on Phi Phi, with stunning pools and a beautiful beachfront location.
  • €€ PP Charlie: It has great views of the bay and is conveniently located without the noise.
  • €€ PP Casita: Simple and comfortable cottages near the bar area but still quiet at night.

4. Laem Tong Beach: Exclusive and Romantic Spot

Located on the northern tip of the island, Laem Tong Beach is an exclusive and secluded area, perfect if you’re looking to unwind. Its peaceful vibe and natural surroundings will give you a completely different experience on Phi Phi.

However, the more challenging access—relying on boats—and higher prices can be drawbacks if you’re on a tighter budget or want easy access to the rest of the island.

Recommended Hotels in Laem Tong Beach

  • €€€€€ Zeavola: A sustainable luxury resort nestled in a jungle setting and the best high-end hotel on the island.
  • €€€€ Phi Phi Phu Chalet: It has a beautiful infinity pool and breathtaking views.

5. Loh Ba Kao: Nature and Seclusion

Loh Ba Kao, also known as Lo Bagao, is another peaceful area surrounded by nature. Far from the hustle and bustle of Tonsai Village, here you will find a unique atmosphere and serene beaches.

However, its remoteness means you have to rely on boat transfers, which will limit your access to the island’s center. This isolation is both its greatest charm and something you consider when choosing this area.

Recommended Hotels in Loh Ba Kao

  • €€€€ SAii Phi Phi: Beachfront location with a fantastic pool and an excellent breakfast.
  • Phi Phi Ba Kao: Basic bungalows with a good value.

Tips for Choosing Where to Stay in Phi Phi

  1. Budget and travel style: If you're on a tight budget, Tonsai Village is a great option to save money and stay close to everything. For a more exclusive experience, Laem Tong Beach or Loh Ba Kao are perfect choices, especially if you're looking for a romantic spot for a honeymoon in Thailand.
  2. Location: If convenience is key, Tonsai Village is the way to go. For a quieter stay, choose Long Beach, Laem Tong Beach, or Loh Ba Kao, where you'll find more secluded, less crowded beaches.
  3. Boat transfers for remote areas: Hotels in Laem Tong Beach and Loh Ba Kao usually offer free or low-cost transfers to Tonsai, but be aware that schedules may be limited. Private boat rides can get expensive, especially at night.
  4. Book early for high season:: During the high season (November to March), which is also the best time to visit Thailand, prices can go up. If you're visiting during this period, book early to get the best deals.
  5. Be ready for deposits: Hotels in Thailand often require a deposit at check-in. Mid-range and luxury hotels will usually block the amount on your card, while budget accommodations typically prefer cash. Deposits are refunded at check-out.
  6. Reviews: If you're considering a hotel other than the ones I’ve recommended, make sure to check reviews from other travelers. Some hotels on Ko Phi Phi Don that were once highly rated have fallen into poor maintenance in recent years.
