The Phi Phi Islands are one of the most popular destinations in southern Thailand, and with good reason: this Thai paradise has some of the best beaches in Thailand.

In this guide, I tell you where to stay in Phi Phi to make the most of your stay, depending on what you want to do. I have also included the best hotels in Phi Phi island for different budgets.

In case you don't have time to read the whole article, my favorite hotel is the Phi Phi The Beach Resort in Long Beach. The most popular is the PP Princess Resort and if you want something cheap the Chunut House is the best.

Where to sleep in Phi Phi

1. Tonsai Village: Convenience and Local Atmosphere

Tonsai Village is the centre of Phi Phi Don, where you will find most of the amenities such as restaurants, bars and shops.

This is the ideal place if you want to be close to the action and enjoy the best things to do in phi phiIt is also next to the port where the ships arrive. boats from Krabi and Phuket, and from where excursions to Maya Bay and other iconic sites depart.

However, as it is a very popular area, the atmosphere can be somewhat noisy, especially at night, as much of the nightlife is concentrated here.

Despite its proximity to the village of Tonsai, which is about a 20-minute walk away, the location may not be as convenient if you prefer to explore the centre of the island frequently. However, its beauty and tranquillity make up for the distance.

This balance between tranquility and proximity makes this the best area to stay in Phi Phi, and the prices of the accommodations are quite affordable.

However, if you prefer a quiet environment, this area may not be the best option. Some hotels may be very close to the noise of bars and music that often lasts until late at night. You will have no problems sleeping in the hotels I recommend below.

Located in the north of the island, Laem Tong Beach is an exclusive and secluded area ideal if you are looking to get away from it all. Its peaceful atmosphere and nature will give you a completely different experience on Phi Phi.

However, its more complicated access where you will depend on the boats and higher prices can be a disadvantage if you have a tighter budget or want to move easily around the island.

However, the distance means you have to rely on boat transfers, which will limit your access to the centre of the island. This isolation is, at the same time, its main attraction and one of the aspects you should consider when choosing this area to stay.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a more exclusive place, consider Leamtong Beach or Loh Ba Kao, which are perfect places to spend your honeymoon in Thailand.
  2. Consider the location: If you prefer the convenience of being in the centre, Tonsai Village is perfect. However, for a quiet stay, Long Beach, Leamtong Beach and Loh Ba Kao are located on more exclusive and less crowded beaches.
  3. Boats in remote areas: Accommodations in Laem Tong Beach and Loh Ba Kao often offer free or cheap shuttles to Tonsai, but times can be limited. If you're paying for a boat yourself, it can be expensive, especially at night.
  4. Book in advance: During the high season (November to March) although it is the best time to go to Thailand, prices rise considerably. If you are going to travel to Phi Phi during this time, book in advance to find the best hotels in Phi Phi at a good price.
  5. Deposit: Please note that in Thailand it is very common for hotels to ask for a deposit upon check-in. Mid-range and high-end hotels usually block the amount on your card, while budget hotels usually prefer cash. You will receive a refund upon check-out.
  6. Ratings: If you are going to book a hotel other than the ones I recommend in this article, read the reviews from other travelers. There are many hotels in Ko Phi Phi Don that people still recommend, but unfortunately their glory days have passed without proper maintenance.
