Rhodes isn’t just about beaches and ancient ruins—it’s a place full of contrasts. From its medieval town that feels straight out of a storybook to quiet coves where all you hear is the sound of the waves. Picking the right place to stay can totally change your experience.

That’s why I put together this guide with the best areas to stay in Rhodes, including the pros, cons, and hotel recommendations for every budget. So the only thing you’ll have to worry about is which sandals go best with the sunset.

If you don’t have time to read the whole post, my favorite hotel is the Evdokia. If you’re traveling with family or looking for fun, Sun Palace is winner. And if you’re on a budget, Stavros is a great choice.

Where to Stay in Rhodes

1. Rhodes Town

Rhodes Town mixes history with modern comforts. If it’s your first time on the island and you’re looking for a bit of everything—culture, shopping, beaches, restaurants—this is the place. Here you’ll find the famous medieval city, Mandraki Harbor , and most of the main sights.

Depending on where you stay, you can even walk to Elli Beach, a long beach with a fun diving platform.
Hotels in Rhodes Town range from budget options to luxury boutique hotels.

✅ Pros: You can walk pretty much everywhere, everything’s close, and buses connect you easily to the rest of the island (including the airport)—great if you don’t want to rent a car.
❌ Cons: It gets crowded in summer, and some areas can be noisy at night.

2. Faliraki

Faliraki used to be all about partying, but it’s calmed down a lot over the years. Now it’s a great place to stay even if nightlife isn’t your thing. You can still find bars and beach clubs, but it also has a laid-back vibe if you just want a drink and some chill time.

Faliraki Beach is huge and packed with water activities for all ages. It’s also a super convenient base—just 15 km from Rhodes Town—and perfect for exploring the island. Plus, there are tons of hotels with slides and water parks, ideal if you’re traveling with kids or just love a daily adrenaline rush.

3. Lindos

Lindos is the most beautiful village in Rhodes—it looks like a postcard with its whitewashed houses, cobbled streets, and the Acropolis towering above the sea. It’s one of the must-sees of Rhodesand a perfect spot for a romantic getaway or if you’re after a charming place to stay.

There are two gorgeous beaches in Lindos, perfect for unwinding after wandering the village. The main beach is just below the old town, and there’s a smaller one in Saint Paul’s Bay. Both have calm waters and are easy to reach from the town.

You’ll find everything from boutique hotels with amazing views to cozy studios and traditional apartments, many set inside those classic white houses—perfect for a stay with character.

Kolymbia is a great pick if you’re looking for peace and quiet in a central part of the island. It’s halfway between Rhodes Town and Lindos, so it’s a great base for exploring while staying in a more quiet area.

Kolymbia Beach is long and calm—perfect for relaxing without feeling too far from everything. The sand mixes with small pebbles, and the water is clear and great for swimming.

This area is mostly filled with resorts and all-inclusive hotels, many of them affordable and close to the beach, making it ideal for a laid-back, no-stress vacation.

5. Ialyssos & Ixia

These two spots are in a super convenient location, close to Rhodes Town and the airport—ideal if you don’t want to deal with complicated transportation.

The beaches here face west, so they tend to be windier and have a bit more wave action, which makes them a hit with windsurfers and kitesurfers. The beaches are mostly pebbles or coarse sand with gorgeous deep turquoise water. They’re well-equipped and have plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. They’re not the most comfortable beaches for lounging all day, but if you like a lively scene, you’ll enjoy it. Plus, the sunsets are some of the best on the island.

Most hotels around here are mid-range to high-end, with lots of beachfront resorts and hotels with pools—great for couples and families.

Stegna has a family-friendly beach lined with tavernas and calm waters. It’s one of my favorite spots on the island—perfect if you want peace and quiet without the crowds.

Haraki is even smaller but just as charming, with a postcard-perfect bay. And if you’re up for something a bit more wild, you can head to nearby Agathi Beach.

This area is full of family-run places to stay—small hotels, studios, and charming apartments, all peaceful and just steps from the beach.

At the very southern tip of the island, Prasonisi is famous for its winds and waves. If you're into windsurfing, kitesurfing, or just love a bit of adventure, this place will feel like heaven.

The beach is the main attraction—a sandbar that separates the Aegean from the Mediterranean. It’s a pretty special spot, with waves and wind on one side and calm waters on the other. Perfect for water sports or just enjoying the scenery.

There aren’t many places to stay here. You’ll find a few small guesthouses and simple studios near the beach, mostly geared toward surfers or anyone wanting to truly unplug.

When deciding where to stay in Rhodes, the first thing to think about is what kind of trip you want, what you plan to see, and how you’ll get around. The island is bigger than it looks, and each area offers a totally different vibe. Here are some tips to help you pick the right spot:

If you’re planning to use the bus, stay in Rhodes Town or Faliraki. Both are well connected and have tons of restaurants, entertainment, and services.
If you plan to explore the island and rent a car you can go ro a quieter area like Kolymbia, Stegna, or Haraki. They’re great bases for visiting both the north and the south without spending hours driving.
For a romantic or charming getaway, Lindos is hard to beat. It has a magical feel, pretty streets, and great beaches. Just keep in mind it’s pricier and can get crowded in high season.
Traveling with family or want an all-inclusive resort with beach access and entertainment? Ialyssos, Ixia, and Faliraki have plenty of comfortable resorts, many with pools, activities, and direct access to the beach.
Prefer a local feel with fewer tourists? Then Stegna and Haraki are perfect. Ideal for relaxing, enjoying great food, and hanging out at quiet beaches away from the crowds.
Into windsurfing or kitesurfing? Head to Prasonisi. It’s remote, but if you’re after wind and waves, this is the place.
If you're traveling during the low season (November to mid-April) , keep in mind that many hotels are closed and towns like Faliraki and Kolymbia can feel deserted. In that case, I recommend staying in Rhodes Town, Ialyssos, or Ixia. Lindos is also a good option during this time.
If you’re traveling in summer, don’t wait too long to book—good hotels book up fast, especially in Lindos, Rhodes Town, and the most popular spots. Try to book at least 6 months in advance, especially for July and August.
