How many days to travel to Greece?
To visit the most emblematic places of classical Greece, Athens and at least a couple of Greek islands, The ideal is to dedicate at least between 10 and 12 days to it.
The breakdown would be, 4 days for classical Greece, 2 days minimum for Athens and then 4 days minimum for the islands Which gives you time to see a couple of small islands.
Although I have to warn you that Greece is very engaging, to the point that whatever you can dedicate to it, it always seems like only a few days. 😍
What is the best time to travel to Greece?
The best time to visit Greece is late spring and early autumn, that is, May, June, September and October.
During these months you can enjoy the beach and it is not so hot in Athens or the rest of the continental area.
Summer is a very popular time to travel to Greece and is perfect for going to the beach, but in the archaeological ruins and Athens the heat can be overwhelming.
Then, early spring and late fall are colder months and the weather is not good for swimming on the islands. However, it is a good time if you are not interested in visiting the islands.
Finally, in winter it can be quite cold and it is not a good time to visit the islands.

Do I need insurance for an organized trip to Greece?
Travel insurance is not usually included in organized trips and although insurance is not mandatory to travel to Greece, it is a serious mistake not to take one out.
The reason is that if anything happens to you, covering it out of your pocket is going to cost you dearly.
I always use and recommend Heymondo, it is an international insurer specialized in travel insurance, with excellent coverage and 24-hour assistance, even if you take out the basic insurance and here you can get a 5% discount.
My recommendation is that you never travel without taking out travel insurance, you never know what can happen.
Visit Athens without an organized trip
Athens is one of the most important places to visit in Greece and I recommend that you dedicate at least 2 days to it, if you have more even better.
In case you choose one of the all-inclusive trips to Greece that do not include a visit to Athens, here are some recommendations for visiting this fascinating city:
1. Private tour of Athens
An excellent alternative is to tour the city with a private tour of Athens like this one, which is very personalized and the price is per group. If you travel as a family, group or join other travelers it will be a good price.
The tour is with a guide in Spanish and includes transfers to and from the hotel.
2. Free + tours
Another alternative is that you visit Athens on your own, combining it with some tours.
Here you can get tickets for the Acropolis and the 6 main archaeological sites of the city, it is a combined ticket that saves you money.
These are the best tours of Athens that I can recommend:
- Tour of the Ancient Athens and the Acropolis with guide in Spanish
- Night walk through Plaka and Monastiraki with guide in Spanish, ideal if you travel in summer 🔥
- Free tour of Athens with guide in Spanish
- Athens Food Tour to learn about delicious Greek food and taste it
Also, if you have an extra day, I recommend that you do a tour to Cape Sounion like this one, which is especially beautiful at sunset or this other one with audio guide in Spanish.
How to travel to Greece? Are there cheap flights?
To travel to Greece, the best connected airport with the most cheap flights is Athens International Airport (ATH).
From Spain
Athens airport has direct flights from Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca most frequently. Then, it also has flights from Bilbao, Seville, Valencia and Ibiza.
If you are looking for cheap flights to Greece, there are low cost flights from Barcelona to Athens with Vueling daily that you can get from 50 euros one way and from Bilbao to Athens with Volotea twice a week.
To find the best offers I recommend this flight search engine and other transport throughout Greece and Europe.
From Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and other countries
To get to Athens from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia or another Latin American country you will have to make a stopover. The airlines with the best prices are European ones, such as Iberia, KLM, Air Europa and Air France.
Depending on the country you are departing from, there are sometimes cheap flights with Turkish Airlines that stop in Istanbul.
Here you can see all the cheap flights to Athens, if you can't use the search engine below.
Athens airport to city
