I tell you about Da Nang, the origin of surfing in Vietnam at My Khe beach, climate and water temperature, in addition 8 places to rent a board and take surf lessons.
Da Nang beach and Places of Interest within walking distance
If you go to Da Nang, don't miss visiting My Khe beach to surf, it is one of the best places to surf in Vietnam, especially for beginner surfers or those who want to improve their level.
In addition, you will find 8 places to rent boards and take a class at their surf schools, including Da Nang Outdoor Adventures which is who I took a surf class with, is almost at the end of the article.
As in the rest of Vietnam, Da Nang has a varied, delicious and economical gastronomyIt also has very cheap accommodation compared to other destinations in Southeast Asia.
Although most tourists pass through this city without stopping, there are many things to do in Da Nang.
It is a city that It has a lot to offer, especially in terms of water activities. such as surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle surfing (SUP), kitesurfing and windsurfing.
The most touristic and recommended places what to see near Da Nang are the beautiful city of Hoi An, the impressive Marble Mountains with their immense caves, the My Son sanctuary and the Hue Imperial City.
Surfing in Vietnam and My Khe Beach
Vietnam is not a country especially known for surfing, since its waves are not too high, unless it is after a storm.
Da Nang is the perfect place if you want to learn to surf or improve your level.
The most popular beach is My Khe, 10 km long from the Son Tra peninsula to the Marble Mountains and It is located just 5 km from the center of Da Nang.
My Khe is a white sand beach perfect for relaxing on one of its sun loungers with a postcard-typical parasol, or if you are like me and can't do anything, take advantage of the opportunity to surf.
Da Nang and specifically the beach My Khe is today the epicenter of surfing in Vietnam.
The first surfers in Vietnam were American soldiers who were surfing on this beach in the 60s.
Climate and Water Temperature
Da Nang has an average temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius, with two seasons, the wet and typhoon season that runs from September to March and the dry season from April to August.
The best waves are from September to March, but don't be scared because it is the rainy season, it normally rains heavily for a while and then stops, many times the rain is during the early morning.
From July to September is the time when there are more typhoons, it is when there will be higher waves.
The price of accommodation fluctuates a lot throughout the year, if you want to save, during the rainy season the price of accommodation is much cheaper.
From April to August the temperatures rise and the waves fall, but they will still be enough if you want to learn. At this time you will not need neoprene, but you will lots of sun protection and some lycra won't hurt.
The water temperature throughout the year ranges between 23 and 29 degrees Celsius, below image of MagicSeaWeed.
In my experience, in January (coldest season) the water temperature is very pleasant, there are those who prefer a wetsuit, for me a lycra t-shirt and shorts is enough.

In My Khe you have 8 places to rent boards and several of them have a surf school.
If you have never stepped on a board or want to improve your level, I recommend taking a class.
