Krabi is one of the most popular destinations in southern Thailand, known for its dream beaches and spectacular landscapes. But above all, it is the starting point for excursions to the most paradisiacal Thai islands, including the Phi Phi Islands.
If you're planning a trip to this area, you're probably wondering where to stay in Krabi. In this article, I'll tell you about the best areas in Krabi province on the mainland, each offering something unique depending on what you're looking for. Plus, I'll recommend hotels for all budgets.
In case you don't have time to read the whole article, my favorite hotels are the Krabi Heritage in Ao Nang and if you are looking for something well located and affordable, nothing like the Anawin .

Where to sleep in Krabi
1. Ao Nang: the most popular area
Ao Nang is probably the best area to stay in Krabi if you are looking for comfort and variety of options. Here you will find everything from restaurants, shops, bars and a wide range of accommodation in Ao Nang, from hostels to luxury resorts.
Although the main reason for choosing this area is practicality, because the main routes leave from there excursions to the islands nearby such as Phi Phi or Hong. It is also an excellent option if you want to go out at night, as the nightlife is lively.
Ao Nang can be divided into two areas: the beach area, Ao Nang beach, and the town area. In Ao Nang beach you will find more luxurious beach resorts with medium and high prices, where you can spend a few quiet days. Meanwhile, in the town area there is more varied accommodation and everything is close by. Although, as it is small, you can get everywhere quickly with a scooter.

Ao Nang Beach
- €€€ €: Aonang Princeville : Boutique resort just steps from the beach, with spacious villas, pool and spa.
- €€ €: The L Resort : Modern boutique hotel with spacious rooms, two swimming pools and a beachfront restaurant.
- € Aonang Viva Resort : Well located and comfortable rooms.
- € Fullmoon Beachresort : Right on the beach in a quiet area.
Ao Nang village
- €€€ : Krabi Heritage : Centrally located hotel with comfortable rooms, pool and easy access to the beach and the centre. In the low season I have paid as little as 30 euros per night.
- €€€ : Pakasai Resort : Eco-friendly resort with rooms surrounded by tropical gardens, infinity pool and good service.
- €: Anawin : Basic bungalows with all amenities and good location.
2. Railay: a paradise between cliffs
Railay is the jewel of Krabi, accessible only by boat due to the stunning cliffs surrounding it. If you prefer a quieter experience surrounded by nature, then looking for accommodation in Railay will be a good idea. To be honest, it is my favourite area in Krabi.
There are also departures from Railay Speedboats to Phi Phi, although if you want to travel by ferry you will have to go to Ao Nang.
Railay is divided into two main parts: Railay West and Railay East, which you can see in the photo above. Railay West has the best beaches and is where the most luxurious Railay Beach hotels are. On the other hand, Railay East is more affordable and has a more laid-back vibe, ideal for backpackers.

- €€€€€ : Rayavadee : Luxury resort surrounded by nature, with exceptional service and direct access to the beach. If you are looking for special accommodation, such as for a honeymoon, this is the one for you. 😍
- €€€€ : Railay Village : Hotel with comfortable rooms, direct access to the beach and a relaxing atmosphere.
- € : Railay Garden View : Simple cabins with jungle views, an economical and charming option.
3. Tonsai: for climbing
Tonsai is the perfect spot if you want to take advantage of the opportunity to go climbing or are simply looking for a relaxed and bohemian atmosphere. Although it is very close to Railay, access to Tonsai is also only by boat or on foot from Railay, a walk not suitable for everyone.
This area is known for its spectacular cliffs and alternative atmosphere, where backpackers and climbers mix.
I must warn you though, that in general the accommodations in Tonsai are quite basic, but if you are interested in a relaxed atmosphere, this is an excellent area to stay in Krabi.

4. Tubkaek: luxury and tranquility
Tub Kaek or Tab Kaek Beach is ideal if you are looking for a quiet retreat surrounded by nature and beautiful scenery. This area is home to some of Krabi's most exclusive resorts.
Therefore, it is ideal if you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway or simply to relax on a beautiful and fairly deserted beach.

5. Nopparat Thara: tranquility within easy reach of Ao Nang
Nopparat Thara is ideal if you want to be close to the action of Ao Nang, but prefer a quieter setting. The beach is long and much less crowded.
It's a good choice if you're looking for accommodation in Krabi and don't mind driving or taking a taxi to Ao Nang. Plus, Nopparat Thara is the starting point for some boat tours, making it convenient if you plan to explore the nearby islands.

6. Pai Plong Beach: the hidden beach near Ao Nang
Pai Plong Beach is a hidden gem very close to Ao Nang, but much quieter. This small beach is separated from the hustle and bustle by a path along a cliff, known as the “Monkey Trail”.
Here you will find a luxury resort that occupies the entire beach, the Centara. It is perfect if you want to be close to Ao Nang and still enjoy a very relaxed atmosphere.
Recommended Hotel in Pai Plong Beach
- €€€€ : Centara Grand Beach : Exclusive resort with beach access and all amenities at very reasonable prices depending on the season.
7. Krabi Town: For a local experience
Krabi Town is the main town in Krabi province. This is the perfect place if you want a more authentic and less touristy experience. Although it is not on the beach, it is an affordable option for where to stay in Krabi.
Here you will find the best night market in the province, typical restaurants and a quieter nightlife. It is also a good starting point to visit other areas of the province or southern Thailand because the airport is nearby and the main bus station is there.
