If you're flying into Rhodes, the first thing you’ll want to figure out is how to get out of the airport without wasting time (or losing your patience). Rhodes International Airport – Diagoras (RHO) is about 14 km from Rhodes Town, and there are a few ways to reach the center or head to other parts of the island.
Here’s a breakdown of all your transport options from the airport, with pros and cons depending on your budget, energy level, and whether you’re traveling light or carrying a mountain of bags. All based on my experience living on the island for over two years.
If you’re short on time, this private transfer to Rhodes Town is a great deal and hassle-free.
Rhodes Airport to the City Center
1. Bus
The bus is the cheapest way to get to Rhodes Town. The bus stop is just outside the terminal—exit to the right and you’ll spot it right away.

🕒 Schedule from the airport: between 6:50 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. approx.
🕒 Schedule from the city: from 5:15 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. approximately.
▶ Frequency: every 30 min approx.
🚌 Travel time: around 40 minutes, depending on traffic
💶 Price: 2.50 € per person, one way
🔹 You pay on board, card only.

These times and frequencies apply Monday to Friday, from mid-April to mid-October. The rest of the year and weekends have different schedules. You can download the current timetable from the website, under the “West Side Routes” section—there you’ll find three schedules: weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

✅ Pros: It’s affordable—perfect if you don’t have much luggage and don’t mind a few stops.
❌ Con: It only goes to Rhodes Town. If you’re staying elsewhere, you’ll need to transfer to another bus or grab a taxi.
✅ Friendly Tip: Don’t forget to get travel insurance for your next adventure. I recommend Heymondo,—it’s super comprehensive, and with that link, you’ll get 5% off!
2. Taxi
Right outside the airport, there’s an official taxi stand. The good news is there are fixed rates for the island’s main destinations. You can check the full list of fares in picture below.

🕒 Working hours: Available 24/7, including early morning arrivals
🚌 Travel time: about 20-25 minutes depending on traffic
💶 Price: €27 – €29 to Rhodes city center, more expensive at night
🔹 Payment is in cash. If you want to pay by card, check with the driver before getting in.
✅ Pros: Great if you’re arriving late or have lots of luggage.
Just so you know—there’s no Uber or similar apps in Rhodes.

3. Private transfer
If you want to have everything arranged ahead of time, book a private transfer. They’ll be waiting at the airport with a sign and take you straight to your hotel—no detours. I recommend booking through this website; they work with reliable drivers.
✅ Pros: Ideal if you're traveling with a group or kids, or just want to skip the wait and go straight to your hotel.

4. Car rental
There are several car rental agencies inside the airport, both international and local. If you’re planning to explore the island, picking up your car right at the airport can be a smart move.
💶 Price: from €5 a day in mid-season and around €35 in high season (depends on the car and the rental company).
🔹 To get the best deals, I recommend this website (it’s the one I use) that works with reliable local companies, or this other one if you prefer to rent from international companies.

✔️ Requirements to rent a car in Greece
- Minimum Age: 21 (some companies require 23 or 25). Young driver surcharge may apply.
- Driving license:
- Valid if you are from the EU.
- If you are from outside the EU, you’ll need an international driving permit.
- License held for at least: 1 year (sometimes 2).
- Credit card for deposit: It must be in the driver’s name. Some companies accept debit cards, but with restrictions.
- Additional documentation: Passport.
👍 My tip: Book in advance and check the car carefully before driving off—take photos just in case.
✅ Pros: It’s the most convenient way to get around the island. You can go at your own pace and explore less accessible areas.
Rhodes Airport to other parts of the island
1. West Coast (Ialyssos, Ixia, etc.)
If you’re staying in one of the west coast towns, the transport options are the same as for Rhodes Town. Buses stop in these areas, and here are a few taxi fares. You can see the rest in the photo above.
- Ialyssus: 18 €
- Ixia: 21 €

2. East Coast (Kalithea, Faliraki, Lindos, etc.)
To get to the east coast, your best bet is renting a car or taking a taxi.
There’s no direct public bus from the airport to towns on the east side of the island. If you want to go by bus, you’ll first need to head to Rhodes Town, then catch another bus to your final destination. From my experience, since the buses don’t line up well, it can take 2 to 3 hours to get from the airport to Faliraki with all the waiting and transfers.
Here are some taxi fares:
- Faliraki: 31 €
- Kalithea: 32 €
- Beautiful: 74 €
- Kiotari: 84 €
To sum it up
- If you want to save: bus
- If you arrive late or with a lot of luggage: taxi or private transfer
- If you plan to explore the island: car rental
- If you want a stress-free start: book a transfer in advance
